It's Very Easy, Really!
Pick your favorite (or least favorite) chapter and send us comments.
What we're looking for:
- Every time we say "You should do x-y-z" and don't say "why", point this out to us.
- Old, outdated examples.
- Missing information about key or crucial points.
- A short paragraph or two about how you saw something we talk about work (or fail spectacularly) in the real world.
Remember that
each chapter has a 'Basics' and an 'Icing' section. The Basics are what someone learning to be a sysadmin needs to know, and are geared towards very junior folks or college students taking a class using this as a textbook. The Icing section is like a 'hallway track' at a big conference, such as LISA. It's by and for senior folks.
What this means is that
you don't have to be a senior guru in a topic to help us improve the Basics section of many chapters, and that you should feel free to pick and choose Icing sections from chapters that are your specialty.
Where to submit feedback? We are getting close to the deadline. Please submit all feedback to our Request Tracking system by sending email to

Where are the PDFs?
There aren't any here. Addison-Wesley is very protective of them-- not a bad reaction, perhaps, since when the book came out there were folks requesting scans of it within the first couple of weeks. If you don't have a copy easily to hand, please put a comment in the chapter(s) you'd like to review, and then email

with the chapters you need.
Note: Most of these are blank pages. Feel free to be the first to enter information about what you would like fixed in the chapter.
